Featuring Author of the Month for May: Wendy Bashant
Registration for this event will close on May 18th, 2024 @ 2:30 pm.
Please join us for a special evening presenting local author Wendy Bashant and her featured book, The Same Bright Moon: Teaching China’s New Generation during Covid. In 2019, Wendy Bashant, a burned-out college dean, quits her job to teach 200 students a class in American culture, in the ancient, walled city of Xi’an, China. The Same Bright Moon is a collaborative memoir highlighting these students through their assignments, discussions and poetry at the height of Covid-19. Their vibrant voices will challenge, inspire, and bring hope for the future.
Light refreshments will be served. Visit here to register for the event.
Wendy Bashant taught and served for over thirty years as a college dean and professor. She has been recognized in national contests: the Peter Taylor Prize for Literature and the Gival Press Novel Award. Her recent book, The Same Bright Moon, is a 2023 New York Book Festival Winner. A graduate of Middlebury College and University of Rochester, she’s currently an adult literacy tutor with San Diego Public Library’s READ/San Diego and volunteers for the San Diego Zoo and Wild Life Alliance.
Author of the Month is a project of the Friends of San Diego Central Library and is held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. HELP the Friends to support the Library and become a member.
